    Question about acid reflux.

Hi. I'm sorry if this has been covered before, I cant find it.

I am on day 4 of a water fast. I have been fine so far but now I am starting to get acid reflux. I have a hiatal hernia in my stomach, for which I usually take gastro-resistant medication for; to neutralise excess stomach acid. It is not usually a problem and sometimes I cut out the medication altogether as I don't always have acid attacks. I haven't been taking them during the fast as I have had no need to until now and I wasnt sure if it was safe or not. What I want to know is, will the production of stomach acid cease as my fast continues?

Also I notice some people are using bouillon cubes, coffee, green tea, etc, which I have avoided so far. Does anyone know if ingesting things like these will stimulate my stomach into producing acid? I'd rather keep away from them if it does.

    Thanks.

Coffee: bad... very acidic results in the stomach.... boullion cubes, would cause you to retain water because of the sodium... not very good in terms of a detox fast, particularly since many of them contain MSG or other flavour enhancers, people just use them as an appetite suppresant so ts not really fasting, its just abstaining from food and thus starvation.

Green tea produces a very non-acidic (alcaline) effect in the stomach and thus may be very beneficial to you. Give it a try. When I fast I take green tea in order to get myself through the day and also because it is very detoxifying and the catechins help you to burn fat as energy.

Theoretically the production of stomach acid will subside as you fast continues and your digestive system rests more. This is, I assume why people must return to normal eating gradually as their stomachs just aren't used to digesting food any more and normal acid production etc...

Sorry to differ, but boillion cubes do not case starvation. Lack of fat stores cause starvation. And liquid fasts are considered fasts. Plenty of fresh water will take care of washing out the sodium, unless you have an unusually severe problem with water retention.

I no longer have acid reflux since I took up fasting. If I do, it is a sign the meal I have eaten is too large.

My husband and I take equal amounts of honey and vinegar (one teaspoon each, mixed together well) and it seems to work.
